Kasike The Elephant

Chapter One: Once
Gumba lived with her parents in the safari. She had three elder sisters, Daifé, Rimi, and Kasike. For some reason Gumba’s parents seemed to show favoritism to Kasike. Only once had they kissed Gumba, Daifé or Rimi. Only once.
One day Gumba was walking down a dirty slope. Rocks tumbled about her. Suddenly, a man jumped at her out of nowhere. “You seek Her, do you?” he hissed. “Who is Her?” asked Gumba. “Fool, you don’t know of Kasike?” shouted the man. “KASIKE?” yelled Gumba, “she is my sister!”
“Your sister is the Golden Elephant!” gasped the man. “My sister is Kasike, but not an elephant. What are you talking about?” said Gumba. “Kasike is a legendary elephant, but a magic one,” whispered the man. “What do you mean magic?” asked Gumba. “Well,” said the man, “first of all, she is golden as the sun. Ordinary elephants are gray. Next, when she trumpets, white flakes of snow come flying out of her trunk.”
“I-is she r-r-real?” stammered Gumba. “Yes,” hissed the man.
Chapter Two: Silver Elephants
It was a cloudy night. Spooky echoes of strange music filled the air. Silvery elephants paced down the slope. Gumba watched rain drizzle down from the sky. She thought about what the man had said. “She is reeeeal,” he had hissed. Suddenly, there was a loud crash of thunder. The rain poured harder. There was a long gust of wind. Gumba looked out the window. She nearly died when she saw a huge, golden elephant. The thing looked at her, trumpeted and disappeared.

Song for Mr. Obama

On the occasion of his election as President of the United States

The President is now Barak
Let’s all give him a cheer
People from everywhere, far and near
Make sure you that you can hear!
He’s going to seat in the office
I’m sure he’s going to rule
He’s going to make our lives better
He is going to be so cool!

A Magic Park

Celeste was the kind of girl that is always daydreaming. But her parents said that she must pay attention. She obeyed the rule, “children are to be seen and not heard”, for she rarely spoke.
One night she had a glorious dream. She was standing in a park with rows of marigolds and dandelions blanketed in hazel and silvery light of the sunset. Then she saw the strangest thing. A statue of a lioness was creeping past a cherry tree. The lioness looked very sleek and flexible, but that was not what mattered. The fact that a statue could move made Celeste wonder. Suddenly she woke up.
“ Oh, I must make a park like that!” She still remembered her dream. That afternoon, right after lunch, she called her friend Mark. She told him about her dream and asked him what she could do. “Bah, you can’t even eat broccoli, but you know it is nearly Christmas, and I will report to Santa. He will do what he can do.”
On Christmas Eve, Celeste quickly wrote for a rubber ducky for her baby brother George. “Celeste Erin McJordan, you are growing up and you must stop daydreaming,” snapped her mother. The next day, Celeste dashed to the living room. There was an envelope for her. She opened it. Inside there was – a picture of the park she had dreamed of!

Emen

Emen
By Yoav Schwartz
(Based on Homer’s Iliad)

Part 1.
“Sing of Emen, Muse, the man whose heart filled a cup with wine,
The men who joined him, fought him,
And the gods themselves.”

Up in Mount Olympus,
Where the Thunderer Zeus sits in his
Throne, trouble stirred.
Pallas Athena, Hera, Hermes, and Ares
Were thinking of the men: Poceanus, Rines,
Colmon, Julian, and Gariatun, innocent.
The five mortal men, who stole from King Emen.
But Zeus, Poseidon, Hephaestus, Artemis,
Apollo, Demeter, and Dionysus found them
Guilty. Aphrodite was thinking
Both sides urging her to join them.
She found the men handsome and good,
So she joined the team to gray-eyed Pallas.

Down below in the Aegean Sea,
Sailed the men.
Poseidon and Zeus, still angry
With them
Were conducting a storm.
Poseidon saw them and their
Ship and hurled a wave at it.
The wave struck them and,
In a flash,
They were tossed into the raging sea.

Far off in the land of
Philthya,
King Emen and his wife,
Queen Rebecca,
Were also arguing.
Queen Rebecca shouted:
“Emen, my evil spouse!
How dare you!
Rebecca, I, wish that you,
That you stupid selfish king,
That you would think!
Think before you set us up.
The gods have decided,
Some find US guilty!
The robbers fled,
You gave us this strife,
Emen, my evil spouse!”

And Emen said soothingly:
“My queen,
My beloved wife,
Surely you are mistaken,
I did not commit this trouble.
Why, had the men not stolen,
Emen, I, would have stayed calm.”
Rebecca, the queen, stormed to Kind Emen’s
Bed-chamber.
And in her growing wrath,
She tore his bed sheet in half!
She flung his cotton pillows
Into the firing hearth!

Meanwhile, the men were still swimming in the raging sea
When all of a sudden,
Pallas Athena dove down from
The sky.
“Oh dear,” she said to herself when
She saw the unconscious men struggling
In the water.
She went down and picked up
The men.
Rines awoke.
“What!” he cried.
“What is happening?
Oh, where am I?”

Part 2.
Pallas carried the men to
Mount Olympus.
The gods sat silent
On their thrones,
As Athena lay the men on the floor.

Helios, the sun,
Was starting to turn back
To his ittle house on an island and his
Last, dim, rays shone on the dull glass of
King Emen’s window.
Queen Rebecca now forgave Emen.
“Oh,” said she to Emen.
“Oh, how I AM sorry for
Fuming at you.
Shall you forgive me, like I have forgiven
You now?”

Back up in Olympus,
Zeus now thought,
“Eh, now, I have thought twice,
And now I learn a lesson.
My accusation
Was a mistake,
For I now find
The men innocent.”
So the gods took the men,
And they flew to King Emen’s castle.

Selene, the moon,
Now took Helios, the sun’s place.
Night danced in the sky
As the gods landed in the castle.
Queen Rebecca said:
“My!
The gods?
And the thieves?
Oh, goodness!”

“Now,” ordered Hera.
“Now see here!
These men are innocent!”
Queen Rebecca straightened.
“How I should’ve known!
Why couldn’t you just tell me?”
And Hermes, herald of the gods said:
“We were busy at the time.
I, Hermes, herald of the gods,
I know you well!
Daughter of Chireyscha and Nelso.
I would’ve told you!”
And Rebecca’s eyes flashed.
And they all agreed,
The trouble was over.

Halloween

Dancing mushrooms,
Could there be fairies inside?
The twelve little pumpkins,
Gleaming in their pride.
The clock struck nine,
Children ran home,
Carrying their candy-bags,
Dressed as gossiping princes,
Ghosts and hags.

The Thinnest River

In the world, there are many long rivers that reach the ocean. But long ago, one of them didn’t. This river was very bored having nothing to do all day but flowing in the forest. One day it decided to flow away to the ocean and see what it is like there.

The river flowed for a very long time and finally it reached a group of flamingoes. The river snorted and said, “Get out of my way. I am off the see the ocean.” The flamingoes said, “Please do not flow away. We need you to keep our food fresh and to have water to drink.” But the river ignored them and kept on flowing.

The river flowed on for a long time and finally it had to stop for a rest. Ahead of it there were very large and wide rocks. The river struggles to push them aside but it could not. Finally it pushed a tiny opening, so only a very thin stream could pass. So that is why now we have thin rivers.

Yoav's First Movie

Prologue: I woke up. It was memorial day- -that's right. I wanted to make something I would never forget.

Chapter 1.  I thought about what I wanted to make. Then I decided to make a movie. I started SHHH with little sound-affects. With daddy's help, I made more than a movie; I made a masterpiece!
Chapter 2. I loved this movie and called it SHHH because while recording my parents talked. I wanted them to be sort of quiet.
Chapter 3. I chose where to put twirls (twirls are when you skip something) and sound-affects. It wasn't very easy.

I will never forget that movie and I'll especially remember how I made it next Memorial Day,

The Gods and Godesses

The Gods and Godesses

Vaia ( say Vah-ee-ah )

Vaia is the godess of the deserts and sand-lands. She isn’t exactly Zeus’s type but she is sort of pretty. But she’s pretending to love him...because she would gladly destroy him if she could!

Batitus ( say Bah-tee-tus )

Batitus is extra sensitive, even though he’s the god of ice. He has met Vaia and was in love with her instantly. But he knew her evil secret, and killed her right away!

Wizards and Witches #1

Wizards and Witches #1

Ms.Bassel’s Cave

Chapter 1

The scroll said: “ You little pot of

silver and gold,

die of a sickness or

do what you are told.

Ms.Bassel looked at the scroll and thought “ Hmmm...I don’t know who did this but they’ll be sorry!”

A girl named Rachel screamed “It rhymes! It just rhymes!” A boy named Rocky (his real name was Rock) said “Maybe a witch wrote it. Or a wizard!”

Everyone stared at Ms.Bassel. She was wearing a black dress. Under that, she was wearing black stockings. Under that, she was wearing black slippers. In her long, wild, black hair was a big, black ribbon.

“ What are you looking at me for?” asked Ms.Bassel. Ariel said calmly “ I think there is no such thing as witches and wizards...”

“ WHAT!!!” cried the whole class except for Ariel. Maryann cried “Ariel, you stink! Yeah, you suck!”

“Maryann, you have plenty of mean tools, but now please follow the rules!” shouted Ms.Bassel, her face turned red.

Harriet began to cry, for she liked Maryann and hated it when Maryann was in trouble.

Ariel stuck out her tongue at Harriet. At recess that day, Samantha, Bia, Gabriella, and Aurora Elizabeth met under the big oak tree. “Vee having a very inpornant meeping.” said Bia, who was from Africa (and born there until she was nine) had a strange accent. “ True,” said Aurora Elizabeth. “And this is it: When Ms.Bassel said “You have plenty of mean tools, I think she meant Maryanne was acting like she had been focusing on the “tools” that make her mean.”

  Chapter 2

The next day, was a complete scare. BOO! Did I scare you? No? Well, I’ll tell you what happend that very day...

Ms.Bassel was wearing a black toxido. Under that, she was wearing black jeans. Under that, she was wearing gray sneakers. Covering her black, long and wild hair was a gray headscarf. Her class, Room #393 were half absent. But the strange thing happend in the morning. Very early in the morning. It was still dawn. Harriet woke up at that time. Her older brother, Jared, and older sister, Ana Rachel, were both awake already. Nara, her youngest sister was still sleeping. Percy, her second oldest brother was guarding Nara. Her oldest brother, Benjamin, was also sleeping. As Harriet crawled on the floor...someone touched her shoulder! “Boo!” shouted Jared.

The Wishing Star

The Wishing Star

By Yoav Schwartz

          Chapter 1

           Messing up

The Presser’s family was medium.

 There was Maya, the oldest.

There was Julia, the second oldest.

There was Lucy, the third oldest.

    And Katy, the youngest.

         And their parents.

One fine day, the night had been so long so the sun, in a such wrath, breaking up to the sky, a noise was heard so. A spank of light covered the earth as the awful screech expelled all other sounds not only but woke up everyone for no reason. But Maya had already cooked up with some reasons. “It’s Karen!” she yelled. Karen loved tubas. At least one-hundred times more than the Pressers.

Grown-up Lily

Grown-up Lily

by Yoav Schwartz

     Chapter #1

Lily Harriet Barman never, ever, in her life had so much worried about growing up.

It all started one gloomy evening when Lily Harriet Barman heard her elder sister, Mary Susan, her eldest sister, Isabella Aileen, and her parents talking in la sala, the living-

room. She heard Isabella Aileen eating las uvas, grapes. Then, she heard Mary say:

“Why we live in america when we come from Mexico? Why we say, “Oh, America de Norte is good,” when we have Mexico?”

Now, the true ground the family came from was Mexico. When they left Mexico, Isabella Aileen having cancer. She recover soon, so then she could walk with  Lily Harriet to the lake. They lived on Cornell Street, on 6D.

   Chapter #2

For spring-break they went to Washington D. C.. They left on Friday and came came back on Tuesday. They went to Harriet’s, Hard Rock, and stayed at Hotel Harrington on the 8th floor. They saw Phineas and Ferb, Hannah Montana, Cory in the house, Life with Derek, and The Suite Life of Zack and Cody. It was almost winter-break and Lily’s parents were planing on going to Florida. Since they lived in Chicago, Illinois, it would be fun to fly down to Florida. Now, back to the contract. Poor Lily! She was so used to Illinois and didn’t want to go back.

Even though she missed Mexico, she hated planes, especially long ones.

Song #1: RAKE IT, SHAKE IT, BUT DON’T BOIL IT!

Medium Rock

When the time came

to throw a party...

love, I didn’t mean to break your own heart.

When I didn’t invite you!

When will I,

get to see the blue sky,

shinin’ over my head!

Rake it, shake it! Rake it, shake it! Let it fall off you, but don’t boil it.

That madness has gotta stop! That madness of yours has gotta stop!

Please, I’ll throw another party!

Love...love, love...love, love!

Song #2: IT’S A ONE-TWO-THREE

Oh, now...

It’s a one-two-three!

Before I die!

When you, yes you, left me!

The Great Greek God Story

Long ago, almost 300 years ago, or how about 4,000 years ago, the gods and goddesses existed. So did the nymphs, for example Thetis, and many so much more.

But there was a marrige to attend.

Paris was to marry Thetis.

Paris was a mortal.

Thetis, a river-nymph, was not happy, though, because if she was a nymph,

and Paris was a mortal, their children would also be mortals. But Eris, discord-goddess, (also known as Discordia), was also unhappy. For she had been invited not, and everyone throughout Greece to Egypt knew Eris would cause quarrels,

Little Red Riding Hood

Retold by Yoav Schwartz

One day Red Hood's mother spake,
"Gosh! I need to bake
For Grandmamma
And for Grandpappa!"
And then she bakes and bakes,
Until she is loaded with cakes.
But you see,
Being happy , filled with glee,
Sometimes puts you on a roll
Or else gets you out of control.
So taking secretly the cakes for a ride,
Our Hoodie sneaks outside!
All of a sudden, as fast as a frog,
Up jumps a big gray dog!
"Wolf!" Cries Hood.
She understood
That it's not right
To fight our sight.
